Totus Tuus FAQ
What does Totus Tuus mean?
Totus Tuus is Latin for “Totally Yours.” It was part of the motto of our late Holy Father, St. John Paul II, Totus Tuus Maria, meaning “Totally Yours, Mary.” This phrase reminds believers of their call to devote themselves to Mary, who always brings them closer to her son, Jesus Christ.
How is Totus Tuus different from Vacation Bible School?
Totus Tuus is similar to Vacation Bible School in that both are summer day camp programs for children that teach the Faith. However, there are several differences. Totus Tuus is taught by a team of four college students that spend a summer traveling around a diocese. Totus Tuus has a Grade School program during the day and a Junior/Senior High program in the evening. In Totus Tuus there is a special emphasis on Marian devotion, the Sacraments (especially the Eucharist and Reconciliation) and vocational discernment.
What ages can attend Totus Tuus?
Totus Tuus is designed for children entering grades 1-12. Those going into grades 1-6 attend the day program and those going into grades 7-12 attend the evening sessions.
Who is on the Totus Tuus team?
The Totus Tuus team is comprised of four college students, two men (often seminarians) and two women, who spend their summer traveling around a diocese, serving the Lord.
When did the Totus Tuus program begin?
Totus Tuus began by a seminarian in the Diocese of Wichita, Kansas in 1987. It is returning to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee this summer! Today over 30 dioceses in 16 states have Totus Tuus programs.
