Covid Restrictions Update

Dear Parishioners,

As many of you are aware, with increased vaccinations the CDC and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee have eased covid restrictions. Given the new directives from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, beginning the weekend of May 29 and 30 we will be making adjustments to our covid protocols at all Masses.

While we are lifting restrictions, as described below, the east and west wings at St. Mary Parish and the two southernmost sections of pews at St. Anthony Parish will be reserved for those who prefer to attend Mass as they have been, with covid restrictions in place. In these sections parishioners will be seated in every other row, masks will be required and Holy Communion will be brought to you before the main body of the church.

However, throughout the main body of the church the following covid restrictions will be lifted:

  • Masks will no longer be required.
  • Every pew will be open for seating.
  • Social distancing will not be required.
  • Attendees will process forward, as before covid, to receive Holy Communion.

Given all of the restrictions that are lifted, we will no longer be using sanitizing trays to distribute Holy Communion. We ask that you trust us that we don’t actually make contact with tongues when someone receives the Lord in this manner. It is much more likely that we would make contact with someone's hand while distributing the Blessed Sacrament.

Many people have expressed how spiritually edifying it has been to receive Holy Communion while kneeling throughout this time of the pandemic. For that reason we will also be adding individual kneelers at the front of church, two on either side of the main lines for Holy Communion, for those who desire to receive the Blessed Sacrament while kneeling. As you come forward to receive Holy Communion you can either stand or kneel and receive in the hand or on the tongue - any combination of these.

Finally, beginning May 29 and 30 we will only be live-streaming the Sunday 8 a.m. Mass at St. Mary Parish and the Saturday 4:30 p.m. Mass at St. Anthony Parish. We will no longer live-stream daily Mass. We want to encourage everyone to return to Mass to offer glory to God, in person. We will however live-stream special events as they present themselves; e.g. confirmation.

We thank you for your understanding and commitment to our changing protocols throughout the past year. We are edified by your faithfulness and ongoing support of us and our parishes.

St. Anthony the Hermit and St. Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.

Peace,

Msgr. Shecterle and Fr. Linn
