Anointing of the Sick & Last Rites
“By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ” (Catechism of the Catholic Church,1499).
Last rites are anointing of the sick, communion, and reconciliation. Those who are in danger of death, suffering from a chronic or severe illness, or preparing for a serious surgery, are encouraged to receive the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. Please call the parish office at 262-251-5910 to request an appointment.
Anointing of the Sick
The anointing of the sick is a sacrament by itself. The anointing of the sick can be administered to a member of the faithful whose health is marked by illness, surgery or old age. It is important to remember that people are encouraged to receive the sacrament during the early stages of illness. Do not delay the anointing. The sacrament can be repeated whenever the sick person again falls into a serious sickness or whenever a more serious crisis develops during the same sickness.
In order to arrange for an individual anointing for a loved one or yourself, please contact the parish office. In hospitals, a chaplain may be requested.
