To lovingly build a world of peace and justice in the name of Jesus Christ is the central command of the Gospel. The Human Concerns Committee discerns needs of people in the parish and wider community—especially the poor—and identifies resources to meet those needs, enlisting the active cooperation of parish members. Opportunities are offered to help fulfill the justice dimensions of scripture and our Church tradition, acknowledging that every Christian is called to service and to work for justice.
There are four components of this action:
1. DIRECT SERVICE - Feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, sheltering the homeless, visiting the sick and the imprisoned.
2. EDUCATION - Forming our minds and hearts in the Gospels and Church teaching, learning about peace and justice issues.
3. ADVOCACY - Taking political action, such as letter writing or protest, to change policies and to advocate for oppressed groups.
4. EMPOWERMENT - Leading oppressed groups to a discovery of their own power for change.
We invite any parishioner interested in becoming involved with Saint Anthony’s Human Concerns Committee to join us at our monthly meetings or contact any committee member for more information. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the CFC. All are welcome.
